Pastoral Application Form Instructions...

Thank you for taking the time to fill out our pastoral application form. Please set aside at least an hour to fill this out. You may copy and paste this form into a word document to work on and then come back to fill this form out once you have collected all your thoughts. While we are not looking for a doctrinal thesis, we are expecting more than yes and no answers. Fields marked with a * are required fields. While we will not discriminate against anyone because of their age, our local demography is around the age of 40. We are looking for someone close to this age. We prefer someone under 60 as we are looking for our forever pastor, at least for the next 20 years.

Section I... Background Information. Tell us about you.

1.) Tell us your salvation story. How did you become a Christian? *

2.) Why do/did you want to become a pastor? Did God call you? How? *

3.) What type of degree(s) do you have and from what/which schools? *

We are looking for someone with At Least a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or seminary.

4.) Do You plan on continuing your education?

5.) What are your long-term pastoral career goals? *

Meaning, are you looking to pastor a small church, large church, multiple churches, online only, prison ministry, building a resume, retirement church, or where ever God calls you you are willing to go?

6.) Who are some of your pastoral role models? *

These can be those you have studied under, authors of favorite books, even those you watch online. Please list no more than 3.

7.) Do you have any formal training in pastoral counseling? *

A degree is preferred but an emphasis is also accepted. Even if it was only one class, list that here.

8.) How does your wife/girlfriend feel about you being or becoming a pastor?

Section II... Tell us about your Current Church. How are you serving there?

This includes associates and worship pastors. These fields are not required. However, if one is not plugged in to and serving a church, how can they shepherd one? We will take into consideration any circumstances that you may be experiencing, of course.

Section III... Why are you applying for West Madison Bible Church?

1.) Why are you interested in West Madison Bible Church? Nearby family? Personal ties to the surronding cities? *

2.) Do you feel it is God's calling for you (and your family) to live in or near Verona WI? *

3.) What is your vision as a pastor. *

This does not have to mean for our church specifically.

Within the first month and first six months?

5.) If you are selected, after one year, what changes to our church, in general, would you like to have made? *

6.) Our church is a non-denominational Bible church. We are not affiliated with any denominational group or office. How do you handle denominational differences? Include those that may seem opposed to each other. *

Section IV... Preaching Style and Sermon Preperation

All fields are required...

1.) What would the schedule look like for an ideal Sunday worship service? *

2.) How do you prepare for your sermons? What does your week of preparation for Sunday look like? *

Meaning, expositional, doctrinal, topical, verse by verse, etc...

5.) What is your interpretaion on the biblical teachin of hell? Should it even be preached? *

6.) What style of music should a church play during the service? *

Which one do you prefer?

7.) In what way does technology help or hurt a church? *

8.) How do you handle disrubtions during a service? *

This includes a cell phone, people talking, a baby crying, but also disrupters who march though our door in protest to God's Word.

Section V... The Church's Internal Workings

All fields are required...

1.) What is the pastor's primary responsibility? What are the next 2 after that? *

2.) Describe your leaderrship style. *

Hands on, laid back, fast paced, facilitator, CEO, "my way or the highway," "I'll listen, but in the end it's my decision," "I'm training up my replacement," etc...

3.) In what way should the leadership meeting be conducted? *

4.) Have you had to deal with any church conflicts in the past? *

With parishioners or staff. Without giving revealing details, we would like to know what the situation was and how it was handled.

5.) How do you handle church discipline? *

Are there situations where one should remove the individual or family immediately instead of following Matthew 18?

6.) How do you handle accountability for yourself and other church leaders? *

7.) During covid, churches were considered "non-essential" and told to close their doors. How would you handle this scenario when it happens again? *

Section VI... Your Beliefs

1.) What are some theological issues that you think are especially important for Christians to get right in this time and place? *

2.) According to Your observations, what doctrines need special emphasis in our day? *

3.) Explain Your view of sanctification. What are the various means God uses to sanctify the believer? *

4.) What does Christ's atonement accomplish? *

5.) Please articulate Your view of end-time or eschatological issues. *

6.) What is your view of divorce and remarriage? *

7.) What are your requirements for performing a marriage ceremony? *

Section VII... Your stance on Doctrine.

All fields are required.

1.) After you have read our constitution (the link can be found at the top of this page), what parts do you agree with? What parts do you disagree with? *

Please make sure you read our constitution completely.

2.) Do you believe in the doctrine of grace? Why or why not? *

3.) What Bible versions do you prefer? Which ones will you not use? *

4.) How do churches grow, according to the Bible? *

5.) What is your position on baptism? *

Meaning, infant, water, sprinkling, submersion, etc...

6.) What is your position on speaking in toungues? *

Is it still something for today?

7.) Please explain justification by faith. *

What is the difference between the Catholic view of justification and the biblical view, if any?

8.) What is the proper use of the Old Testament? *

9.) Do you believe that the events described in Geesis 1-11 are factual or symbolic? *

10.) What does the Bible teach concerning spiritual gifts? Are there some that no longer exist? *

11.) What are your views on 1 Timothy 3:2-12? Especially the phrase of "Husband of one Wife?" *

12.) Describe your interpretation of 1 Timothy 2:12. Do you feel women are allow to lead any ministries? *

This includes children's, small group, outreach, and preaching the word of God from the pulpit.

13.) What is your stance on abortion? *

14.) What is your position on same-sex relationships and marriage? *

15.) What is your view on Israel and the church? Has the church replaced the Israeli promises? Has God abondoned Israel? *

16.) Describe your current theology of the Bible. *

Do you lean more towards Egalitarian, Covenant, New Covenant, Progressive, Reformed, Calvinist, Dispensational, Gnostic, Liberation, etc?

Section VIII... Ministry and Community

All fields are required, except number 6. Please be honest. We are all fallible humans.

1.) What part of ministry gets you really excited? Are there certain subjects you love to preach on? *

2.) What part of ministry is still a struggle to you? How do you handle it? *

3.) How do you handle burn-out? *

4.) Do you believe in small group discipleship? Sunday school? Kids learning downstairs while parents are up in the sanctuary? Bible Studies? *

5.) Does your family participate in the different ministries at church? *

Meaning, children's church, music, college ministry outreach.

6.) How involved is your wife in ministry?

7.) What is your vision for the other ministry groups, such as children, youth, or seniors? *

What could those groups look like?

8.) What type of (or who in the) community are you looking to focus ministering and impacting the most? *

9.) What is evangelism? How should Christians evangelize, if at all? *

11.) List one or two ways you would reach the community around our church. *

This may require some investigation. We are close to the company EPIC, and not far away from the UW Madison Campus.

12.) What is your view on Physically visiting members and/or guests? *

Section IX... Personal Activities Outside of the Church.

All fields are required.

1.) Approximately how much time do you try to spend with your family? *

2.) Will you and/or your wife be working outside of the church? *

We understand the cost of living is above normal in Dane County. We are not opposed to anyone having a job outside of church responsibilities. We do ask though that God comes first. That would include shepherding His people.

3.) What do you like to do for fun outside of church activities? Any Hobbies? *

Section X... Struggles you may have.

Again, we are all human and fallen short of God's grace. Please be honest. We are just trying to get to know you and, if chosen, how to best support you.

1.) What sin(s) do you personally struggle with sometimes? *

2.) What other things do you struggle with that may not be considered a "sin?" *
